The Effect of Not Doing: When We Don’t Take Action

Life is sculpted on a moment-to-moment basis. Every one of the thoughts we think, the words we speak, and the actions we take contributes to the complex quality and character of the universe’s unfolding. It simply is not possible to be alive without making an impact on the world that surrounds us. Every action taken affects the whole as greatly as every action not taken. And when it comes to making the world a better place, what we choose not to do can be just as important as what we choose to do.

For example, when we neglect to recycle, speak up, vote, or help somebody in immediate need, we are denying ourselves the opportunity to be an agent for positive change. Instead, we are enabling a particular course to continue unchallenged, picking up speed even at it goes along. By holding the belief that our actions don’t make much of a difference, we may find that we often tend to forego opportunities for involvement. Alternatively, if we see ourselves as important participants in an ever-evolving world, we may feel more inspired to contribute our unique perspective and gifts to a situation.

It is wise to be somewhat selective about how and where we are using our energy in order to keep ourselves from becoming scattered. Not every cause or action is appropriate for every person. When a situation catches our attention, however, and speaks to our heart, it is important that we honor our impulse to help and take the action that feels right for us. It may be offering a kind word to a friend, giving resources to people in need, or just taking responsibility for our own behavior. By doing what we can, when we can, we add positive energy to our world. And sometimes, it may be our one contribution that makes all the difference

Words - Powerful Words

Words are such powerful things and they just roll out of our faces every day, sometimes without thinking.

They can be Positive or Negative. True or UnTrue. Helpful or Destroying. Kind or Thoughtless.

Even words we blurt out in a sudden bit of emotion can be chosen. Ever cut your finger and you blurt out "Ouch"? Why didn't you say "Carpet" ?? Because you were taught that "Ouch" was the appropriate response to pain and you chose to say that when you feel pain.

How we say them can make all the difference in the world. Your voice inflection and word emphasis can change a phrase from Negative to Positive in an instant. Think about the question "What are you doing?"

Say it with the emphasis on ARE and with angry inflection. "What ARE you doing?"

Now say it with an upswing in your voice at the end, "What are you doing?"

So you can see how your words can create the atmosphere of the conversation.
Think now about someone you know that is always positive, they say positive things, their voice is always pleasant, they know how to control their anger and don't let it destroy them. How is it to be around that person? A bad experience?
NO!
You probably feel 'drawn' to be near that person as much as you can!
Now think of a negative person, never happy, never satisfied, always whining and complaining. Yuk, its like something is making you want to run from them, stay away from them.
Words CREATE!
So, how can you take words and create what you WANT and DESIRE in your life?
Affirmations are a great way. You can see in the left sidebar of my blog there are constantly changing affirmations in various categories. Check here often, write them down, say them as a daily mantra. Choose one per day or one per week and let it resonate your mind and spirit. Let it start to change you.
Don't think it will work? (OOhh thats negative!) Give it a try! Be open minded! Don't you WANT peace and abundance?
C'mon, I dare ya to try it......

What is the Stillness Within?

What is the stillness within you ask?

It is that inner peace or comfort with who you are at your very core. Your true and authentic self.

Not the roles you have in life, not your financial status, not the job you have, but who you ARE.

Our roles in life mold and create our perceptions of who we think we are. But is that our true selves?

I realize that this seems hard to wrap our brains around, but if you take time to sit in stillness, in quiet and quiet your thoughts you can begin to feel your inner self, your energy that is who you are.

Science has proven that our bodies are made up of energy, living cells, electricity in our brains, yet while all this is marvelous and wonderous, it is mortal. But I believe the energy in us that leaves the body when it dies, continues to live on. Call it spirit, soul, energy etc...
